The guitarist, the success of his book The Fun Book of Gypsy Composers, prompted Gervas Hughes to provide a larger edition to encompass a wider field.

His has revised the original text, and has added fifteen new biographies of which he says: “Some of these newly added composers can be reckoned as ‘great’ in the commonly accepted sense of the term, but in every case their music is sufficiently well known to qualify them as ‘famous’: hence the book’s new title, Fifty Famous Composers.”
